The Surfbreaks
Lampung or many people says “Southern Sumatra” has many surfing location. The coast between Way Jambu in the South and Jimmy’s Right in the North has over a dozen breaks of varying quality. Below is a list of the better known surfbreaks.
Ujung Bocur
A 300 meter long lefthander that wraps around the point and provides some great barrels and carving sections. It is really consistent and caters to surfers from intermediate to advanced. Can be ridden from 1 to 3 mtrs and is walking distance from the camp.
Way Jambu (Sumatran Pipeline)
A big, heavy and radical surfbreak. For the experienced surfer who wants a challenge. Fast and gnarly with a down the line barrel and is for those looking to get big, heavy and epic tubes. About 15 minutes by motor bike from Lovina Krui Surf, this is the best quality wave in the area.
Mandiri
A punchy, peaky beach break that turns on when everywhere else is flat. Best surfed Feb to May when off-shore winds prevail, November to January can also be good. Expect lots of peaks and the opportunity to surf without your booties. From 1 to 1.2 mtrs it can be fun, 1.8+ mtrs and it’s a heavy spitting barrel.
Krui Left
A perfect short rampy surfbreak with a nice tube ride. Best when the swell is massive everywhere else. Holds a flawless 2-6 ft. Really fun wave suitable for beginner to advance. Small take-off zone which can’t handle a crowd.
Jenny's Point
A really solid right hander that has a great barrel section and some really challenging sections for manuveres. Holds from 1-2 mtrs and is a really long fun ride.
Honey Smacks
Mainly a wave for bodyboarders, a very sucky and steep, left barrel that is quick and heavy. Holds 1.2 – 4 mtrs and is for the experienced surfer and bodyboarder only.
Hai Surf Camp
Lovina Krui Surf now has a new location Hai Surf Camp. Located right in front of Honey Smacks surf break it’s the ideal location to explore the waves of the Utara district.
Jimmy’s Right
A fantastic, heavy and brutal waves. Best surf on high tide when there is a lot of swell. Book a driver or ride a motorbike for 2 hours to get there. It s a very deep barrel that holds 1.2 – 4 mtrs and is for the experienced surfer only. The end section is so scary it should only be surfed on high tide. Also has a left hander for the adventurous.
